I
started working with mosaic in 1997 after having what I call a "creative
crisis". Having much artistic talent but never really doing anything with
it left me unfulfilled and frustrated with my direction in life. Upon realizing
this, I took up ceramics - a childhood love of mine -- except this time I learned
how to hand-paint china, and really loved it. My china painting was progressing
well for me until one day I went to a local bookstore to buy another book on painting
techniques, and lo and behold, right next to the book on china painting, was a
book on mosaic. I had heard of mosaic, but never really researched it. For whatever
reason, I pulled the book out, plopped down on the floor and started reading it.
Before I left the bookstore that day, I was hooked! I promptly went home and cracked
all my hand-painted plates and used them in mosaics!!! And I've been mosaic'ing
